Tell s/he that experimenting could lead into a full blown adult unmanageable life with never ending addictions. Trust me, I know what I am talking about! I have personal experience. If I had life to do all over again, I def would NOT ever pick up any mind altering substance!What advice would you give your sibling to discourage her/him from experimenting with drugs ?
Just talk to them. Talk often about their views on drugs and other stuff.
If you are clever, talk about their friends, not them. You can say to them ';do any of your frineds use drugs?'; Teenagers like to talk about their friends. Soemtimes they are really meaning themselves but they feel safer talking this way.
You can also say ';what do you think your friends would do if they were offered drugs?'; Listen to them. If your teen knows you will listen they will come to you for advice.
Also set them up with mentors whom they can trust and talk to regularly. Enlist the help of someone with whom they can confide in.
Gee, it takes lots of work to be a great parent, hey?
