This depends a lot upon the age group you are talking about. In high school, students are expected to be able to focus for longer periods of time. At the elementary level, or even the middle school, teachers know that they have to change things up often since younger kids do have shorter attention spans. My 8th graders struggle to remain focused for much more than 30 minutes. In my 57 minute class, I try to do at least 3 different activities per period. At the elementary level, they often do not have defined time periods for each subject because students can't focus for long time periods.
