What advice can you give to someone who would like to start writing poetry ?

Read- poetry, fiction, letters, journals, scripture, nonfiction, everything. It'll expand your vocabulary and your stylistic sensibilities. Don't limit yourself to one genre or era: read modern, Beatnik, Victorian, every nationalities, race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. Read everything.What advice can you give to someone who would like to start writing poetry ?
in all honesty...and I am being completely serious....keep it to yourself and enjoy it

Just be Yourself,and write from the heart!!
Read lots of poetry. Well, hasn't worked for me yet, but hopefully it will. haha
write about what you feel, like i have depression so i wrote about the pain of the world
Read Poetry and practice, practice, practice!

Do your favorites tend to be more structured or loose/ free? In what ways?


Research the forms that speak to you. Learn their mechanics.


Practice them, play with and or break them.


Chase inspiration through your experiences, emotions, thoughts, memories. Experience them synesthetically. Set them on fire %26amp; take pictures with your words.
