i am a cytotechnologist and my work is in the field of gynecology.first of all i don't recommend an iud of any kind at any time. this device is designed to irritate the side of your uterine walls in order to prevent implantation of any fertilized eggs. this constant irritation comes with a multitude of possible complications, worst case scenario , irritating you endometrial cells to the point of causing cancer. iud's also have the tendancy of getting infected by actinomyces fungal infection, in which case the iud would need to be removed. please under no circumstance go with the iud for birth control, use the ring or depo if you don't want to bother with a daily pill, trust me you'll be sorry if you do.
You'll be fine. It's really no big deal. No pain, just some slight discomfort. My friend had one put in last year, and she said it wasn't as bad as she thought it would be.
